Madison, WI- During today’s floor session, Senate President Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk) voted in favor of extending postpartum care for new moms in Wisconsin. Senate Bill 23 received overwhelming bipartisan support. The bill extends coverage for moms who already qualify for Medicaid from 60 days to a full year. The next step for the bill is a vote on the Assembly floor.

Senate President Felzkowski released the following statement:

I am thrilled that we could get this bill done to support new moms in Wisconsin. Healthy moms raise strong babies, and maintaining access to care significantly reduces healthcare costs down the road.

30% of pregnancy related deaths occur 43-365 days postpartum. Ensuring that moms have continuous care when they’re caring for a newborn and recovering from childbirth is common sense.
