Madison– A bill aimed at injecting new life into Wisconsin’s film industry received a hearing today in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee. The proposal, authored by Sen. Julian Bradley (R-New Berlin) and Rep. David Armstrong (R-Rice Lake), would establish a dedicated state film office and implement targeted film production tax credits to attract filmmakers and productions to Wisconsin.
“This bill is about bringing investment, jobs, and tourism dollars here to Wisconsin,” said Senator Bradley. “We can’t let Wisconsin be left behind as nearby states successfully leverage incentives to attract substantial investments.”
The bill emphasizes fiscal responsibility, releasing tax credits only after productions have documented their expenditures, with minimum spending requirements to ensure local economic benefit. It also helps Wisconsin keep pace; currently the state is one of just five operating without a film office or commission, and among only ten that offer no film production incentives.
The bill now awaits a vote in committee.
