MADISON, WI- Today, the Joint Committee on Finance voted 12-4 to strip Governor Evers’ Executive Budget back to base and removed over 600 items. Rep. Palmeri released the following statement:

“Today, the Committee on Joint Finance voted to strip down Governor Evers’ Executive Budget to bring it back to “base”, removing over 600 items, stated Rep. Palmeri.”

“These items include funding for childcare, public schools, higher education, housing, healthcare, PFAS, and more. All major concerns and needs of constituents I have spoken with and listened to at every budget listening session and roundtable I have attended this year.

“The items removed today were not part of some “wish list”. They addressed real issues facing our state that require funding to solve.

“Items of note for the 54th Assembly District include funding for lead service line replacement, Winnebago Lake system staffing, homelessness prevention initiatives, falls prevention grants, and peer-run respite centers. These are all items I requested the Governor consider in his budget. Not because they were my “wish list”, but rather they were issues my community voiced to me.

“A budget is a statement of our values, and today the majority party made theirs.”
