Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Department of Revenue (DOR) is proud to recognize and support the vital contributions of small businesses across the state during National Small Business Week, observed May 4–10, 2025. Small businesses are the backbone of Wisconsin’s economy, fostering innovation, creating jobs, and strengthening our communities.

National Small Business Week acknowledges the important contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. The DOR Small Business Outreach Team (SBOT) was created in 2022 to connect with the small business community in Wisconsin. The team’s goal is to educate small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs on how to properly register a business with DOR, how to stay compliant, withholding tax, sales and use tax, electronic filing, and MyTax Account. They provide a variety of resources for small businesses, focusing on diversity and undeserved communities in Wisconsin.

“Wisconsin’s small businesses are essential to our state’s prosperity,” said Juan Carlos Reyes, Customer Communications Outreach Coordinator for DOR. “We understand that managing taxes can be a challenge for new and growing businesses. That’s why we offer a range of resources to help small business owners and entrepreneurs across the state understand their responsibilities and focus on what they do best — running their businesses.”

Since its formation, the SBOT has been hosting successful small business webinars/seminars throughout the state of Wisconsin, promoting DOR’s values of innovation, inclusivity, empathy, and knowledge in three different languages, including Spanish and Chinese-Mandarin, with a goal of adding the Hmong language to presentations beginning this year. DOR supported over a dozen organizations and hundreds of small businesses and entities through its SBOT presentations last year alone.

The SBOT not only provides external education to Wisconsin entrepreneurs; it also educates internal DOR members by hosting special guests during team meetings. These efforts help the team build bridges with external partners, creating and reinforcing relationships between DOR, other agencies and non-profit organizations and community leaders.
