MADISON, WI – This morning, Representative Brent Jacobson (R – Mosinee) joined his colleagues on the Assembly Committee on Criminal Justice and Public Safety in voting to pass Assembly Bill 201, or “Bradyn’s Law”. This legislation was inspired by the recent tragic loss of 15-year-old Bradyn Bohn, a student at D.C. Everest High School who took his own life after becoming a victim of “sextortion”. Following this vote, Rep. Brent Jacobson issued the following statement:

“Bradyn’s tragic passing demonstrated how vulnerable our children are online,” said Rep. Jacobson. “With hundreds of young people in our state falling victim to organized sextortion rings every year, it has never been more critical for my colleagues and I to respond. Today’s unanimous vote sends a clear signal that Wisconsin will not tolerate heartless thugs who would prey on our kids.”

Bradyn’s Law establishes sexual extortion as a new crime. The bill as passed in committee would impose some of the harshest penalties available in Wisconsin’s statute, including up to a 60 year sentence if sextortion results in the victim’s death.

“As a parent, Bradyn’s story hit close to home,” said Rep. Jacobson. “I am proud that my fellow committee members and I could come together to pass Bradyn’s Law unanimously, and I look forward to further resounding, bipartisan votes as this bill continues to advance in the Legislature.”
