MADISON, Wis. — Today, Wisconsin Democrats introduced legislation to make direct investments in our state’s child care industry, supporting providers and working families in every community. After the introduction, Assembly Democratic Leader Greta Neubauer (D-Racine) released the following statement:
“Child care professionals are the backbone of our workforce, and the services they provide are essential for working families in every community across Wisconsin. But without direct investment from the state, providers will lose critical funding and be forced to raise tuition or close their doors.
“Unfortunately, Republicans on the Joint Finance Committee cut child care funding from Governor Evers’ budget without a plan to help providers and families make ends meet. It will be disastrous for working families and our state if Republicans let this critical funding lapse.
“Unlike the GOP, we have a plan to tackle this challenge. Legislative Democrats’ bill to support child care professionals and Wisconsin’s working families will invest $480 million to help providers find qualified teachers, make ends meet, and stabilize the market.
“When we invest in our child care industry, we invest in our children, our workforce, and our future. This should be a no-brainer.”
