Milwaukee, WI — The Wisconsin Muslim Civic Alliance (WMCA) strongly condemns the reinstated travel ban issued by former President Donald Trump, which once again targets a broad range of Muslim-majority and African nations. The newly released policy restricts immigration and entry from 12 countries—many of them with significant Muslim populations—reviving the same xenophobic approach previously ruled unjust by civil rights leaders, the courts, and communities across the nation.

“This ban is a clear attempt to sow division and target communities based on religion, race, and national origin,” said Fauzia Qureshi, Executive Director of WMCA. “Policies like this do nothing to strengthen national security—they only deepen fear, separation, and injustice. Many of the individuals affected are families seeking safety, students hoping to pursue education, or loved ones trying to reunite with family. They deserve compassion, not exclusion.”

The countries affected include: Afghanistan, Burma, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. Additional partial restrictions are being applied to nationals from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

WMCA urges members of Congress to immediately take action by supporting and passing the NO BAN Act—a bill that would prohibit presidents from enacting discriminatory travel bans without proper oversight and justification. The legislation ensures that no community is ever again targeted based on faith or nationality under the guise of national security.

“This is not who we are as a country. We stand with those who are hurt by this policy, and we call on our elected leaders to reject fear-based governance and affirm our nation’s commitment to justice and equality for all,” said Qureshi.

WMCA will continue to advocate for policies that uphold the dignity and rights of all people, regardless of where they come from or what faith they practice.
