River Falls, WI — Representative Shannon Zimmerman (R–River Falls) released the following statement following the Joint Committee on Finance’s executive session, where he voted to advance major tax relief:

“The tax relief package my Republican colleagues and I supported is designed to directly benefit middle class families and retirees. I’m proud to have helped craft a budget that delivers $1.3 billion in tax cuts, ensuring that hardworking Wisconsinites keep more of their own money,” said Rep. Zimmerman.

The Republican-approved plan makes key changes to Wisconsin’s income tax structure, including expanding the top of the second-lowest marginal income tax rate (4.4%) as follows:

  • Single filers: $29,370 → $50,480
  • Married joint filers: $39,150 → $67,300
  • Married separate filers: $19,580 → $33,650

These changes will allow more income to be taxed at the lower 4.4% rate, providing relief to a broad range of working families. It also creates a retirement income tax exclusion for seniors, age 67 or older:

  • Single filers: The first $24,000 of retirement income is exempt.
  • Married joint filers: The first $48,000 of retirement income is exempt.

“Over the last few months, I’ve heard from many constituents asking for meaningful tax relief in this session’s budget,” Zimmerman added. “This plan delivers on that promise. It puts money back in people’s pockets—where it belongs.”
