U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, today defended congressional Dems’ record on countering President Donald Trump’s policies in a conversation with outgoing WisDems Chair Ben Wikler.

Instead of the typical speech to convention-goers, Baldwin had an onstage conversation with Wikler instead. They asked each other questions, including about their motivations to get involved in politics.

Wikler noted some aren’t satisfied and believe Dems in Washington, D.C., aren’t fighting back hard enough against the Trump administration.

Baldwin said Dems have tools they’re using to push back – including through the courts, congressional action, and uplifting their constituents.

“Those are the strategies and the tools we have. This president has done things that are unconstitutional, he has done things that are outright illegal. There’s over 200 court cases right now, and we’re winning a bunch of them,” Baldwin said.

Baldwin also strongly criticized the Republican reconciliation package, or “big, ugly bill” as she called it, and argued Republican state leaders should push against federal funding cuts to Wisconsin.
