In the wake of the horrific assassination of the former Minnesota Speaker of the House, Republican Rep. Derrick Van Orden has again proven he does not have the decorum or temperament to serve as the 3rd CD’s Representative to Congress.
Van Orden took to Twitter in the aftermath of the shootings to call Gov. Walz, who had just lost a close friend in the shooting, “stupid” and “a clown” while also spreading misinformation that the shootings were due to Minnesota limiting health care services to migrant workers,
Especially galling about Van Orden’s conduct is the fact that eleven Wisconsin lawmakers were found on a list of targets made by the assailant. Van Orden can not help but sow anger and vitriol even when his fellow lawmakers are under attack.
Van Orden did release a statement on his official X page saying “Political violence has no place in America. I fully condemn this attack, along with all forms of political violence and intimidation.” But his actions since that post make these words ring hollow. Van Orden cannot condemn attacks on lawmakers with one hand, while stirring up division and hatred on the other.
The 3rd CD Democrats of Wisconsin condemn his actions and demand an apology from Rep. Van Orden. We also demand he cease attacking his opponents and constituents on social media, and instead spend his time attending to matters of state.
