Sat. June 28th, James Madison Park, 10am

MADISON – On Saturday, June 28th at 10am, Wisconsinites will gather in James Madison Park and march to the Capitol to demand Queer Liberation for All! The Queer Liberation March planning committee includes Madison Area Democratic Socialists of America, Trans Resistance Action Committee, Socialist Alternative Madison, WI Bail Out the People Movement, and Madison Party for Socialism and Liberation. Other endorsers include WI Poor People’s Campaign, Freedom Inc., Families for Justice, Community Pharmacy Cooperative, Jewish Voice for Peace, WI Starbucks Workers United, and Trans Advocacy Madison.

As the global far right ramps up its attacks on queer and trans people, and the liberal institutions that purport to protect us are throwing up their hands, it’s clear that we need a unified, fighting working-class movement for queer liberation. On June 28th, the anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising — a revolt against police brutality targeting queer and trans people — we will gather to prove that we are stronger together – that together, we can oppose the forces of homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, and capitalism that keep us down. We march to oppose any bill that stops trans people from living openly and honestly as themselves, any bill that puts our housing and health at risk. We believe that education, housing, and healthcare for all are basic needs – basic rights! – and they cannot be discarded by Wisconsin legislators. And we stand in solidarity with queer people facing oppression across the globe – especially our Palestinian siblings – and reject the “pinkwashing” that attempts to use accusations of homophobia to justify their genocide.

Rosemary W., an organizer with Socialist Alternative Madison, says “Pride has always been a protest against oppression and exploitation. An injury to one is an injury to all. This year we are marching to say NO to transphobia, NO to ICE, NO to genocide, and NO to war with Iran.” Leo N., an organizer with Madison Area DSA, says “Madison has not seen a march like this for far too long, and this group of organizations is bringing much needed energy back to our beloved city to stand for our basic rights.”

Marchers will gather at James Madison Park at 10am on Saturday, June 28th to demand: No Pride in Genocide! Stand With Immigrants! Healthcare, Housing, and Education For All! The march will stop at the City-County Building before ending at the Capitol. Supporters are encouraged to join the rally or to meet the March at the Capitol at 11:45am.
