MADISON, WI – Three years ago today, the ultra-conservative Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, stripping away access to abortion for women across the country. Despite the fact that Wisconsin residents overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to choose, Badger State Republicans have continuously attacked reproductive freedom.

Chief among those seeking control over the private healthcare decisions of Wisconsin women are State Senators Howard Marklein (SD-17) and Rob Hutton (SD-5). Both have been strongly endorsed by the state’s most outspoken anti-choice organizations and have voted to restrict abortion access, defund Planned Parenthood, to criminalize abortion providers, and to uphold Wisconsin’s 1849 abortion ban. As we look towards election day 2026, Marklein and Hutton’s extreme anti-choice agenda continues to alienate voters.

Wisconsin Senate Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein (SD-27) has released the following statement on the third anniversary of the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade

“In 2022, the Supreme Court overturned nearly fifty years of precedent and, in turn, stripped millions of women of their reproductive freedoms. In the three years since that day, Wisconsin voters have made it clear that they overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to choose. As Wisconsin Democrats have fought day and night in defense of this right, extreme Republicans like Howard Marklein and Rob Hutton have continued their crusade to strip Wisconsin women of access to safe and legal abortion care. Whether by voting to limit insurance coverage, voting to uphold the arcane 1849 abortion ban, or supporting criminal penalties for abortion providers, Senators Marklein and Hutton are out of touch with Wisconsin voters. Next year, the Badger State will reject their far-right positions when we win back a majority in the State Senate and show Senators Marklein and Hutton the door.”
