MADISON, Wis. — Tim Michels couldn’t buy a governor’s seat in 2022; Eric Hovde couldn’t buy a Senate seat in 2024, and Elon Musk couldn’t buy a Supreme Court seat in 2025 — but that doesn’t mean we’ve seen the last of these ultra-wealthy losers in the Badger state. While Wisconsin sent Elon into political hiding, a new report details how Tim Michels and Eric Hovde are considering running for governor in ‘26 despite being rejected by voters over the previous two campaign cycles.
“If Tim Michels and Eric Hovde want to double down on being carpetbagging state-wide election losers then we will gladly welcome them back to the Badger state to prove once again that spending tens of millions of dollars can’t buy you an election,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman.
During his 2022 governor’s campaign, Michels spent roughly $18.7 million of his own money, while Hovde spent approximately $20 million during his run for senate in 2024.
