MADISON, Wis. — Earlier this morning Senate Majority Leader Devin LaMahieu proudly claimed, when it came to voting on the budget, that: “I think we could go to the floor as early as Wednesday.”
However, others in the GOP led State Senate and Assembly aren’t so sure. Sen. Chris Kapenga, tweeted that “As a State Senator, I can’t even get access to a department’s checkbook…But they expect the Legislature to give them the same amount—and more—budget after budget?” Meanwhile, Sen. Rob Hutton penned an op-ed that laid out his own opposition to potentially passing a budget this week.
“Wisconsin Republicans on the front lines of crafting the state budget, led, in part, by Sen. Howard Marklein, and in conjunction with Assembly Representatives like Jessie Rodriguez and Shannon Zimmerman, continue to prove they are not up to the task of governing,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Especially in an election cycle where Republicans’ could lose their majorities in both chambers, the GOP would be doing themselves a favor if they stopped squabbling like children and passed a budget that actually served their constituents.”
