MILWAUKEE–Forward Together Wisconsin President Mandela Barnes released the following statement in response to Senate Republicans’ narrow passage of the budget reconciliation bill that will kill jobs, massively increase emissions, and make utility bills more expensive for Wisconsin families.
“Senate Republicans voted today to reverse decades of environmental progress and undermine U.S. investment and economic competitiveness.
“While energy demand is skyrocketing and utility bills are already on the rise, this Republican Rate Hike could increase the average family’s energy bill by $110 next year and as much as $400 per year by 2035. Hundreds of thousands of good paying jobs will be lost, devastating our local economies. Increased emissions will cause pollution that dirties Wisconsin’s air and water and contributes to more frequent extreme weather events from climate change.
“This bill is a generational failure. Instead of tax cuts for billionaires and the fossil fuel industry, we deserve clean, American-made energy that protects American jobs and
manufacturing and keeps energy costs affordable.”
