Thank You, Governor Evers, Speaker Vos, Senator LeMahieu, Senator Hesselbein, Finance Committee Leaders and State Legislators for Your Support for Wisconsin’s Food Banks

MADISON, WI, July 1, 2025 – We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Governor Tony Evers, Speaker Robin Vos, Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu, Minority Leader Diane Hesselbein, Finance Co-chairs Senator Howard Marklein and Representative Mark Born along with Senators Jesse James and Brad Pfaff and Representatives Todd Novak, Scott Krug and Jenna Jacobson for their commitment to supporting families facing hunger in our state through the recent $10 million bipartisan budget allocation for Wisconsin’s food banks. This investment is not only a vital lifeline for Wisconsin families struggling with food insecurity, but it also reinforces the importance of access to fresh, nutritious, Wisconsin-grown and produced food.

“This grant to continue the Food Security Initiative brings us one step closer to ending hunger in Wisconsin. Hunger is a nonpartisan issue, and I’m grateful to Governor Evers, Speaker Vos, Majority Leader LeMahieu, and Minority Leader Hesselbein for supporting the 618,000 Wisconsinites who experience food insecurity,” said Feeding Wisconsin Executive Director, Jackie Anderson.

With spiraling food costs and a growing number of families facing food insecurity, this funding will enable food banks to purchase more locally grown and produced food, ensuring our communities benefit from the robust agricultural, manufacturing, and retail industries Wisconsin has to offer.

Additionally, this Food Security Initiative will have a positive economic impact on the state’s food producers and growers. According to the USDA, every $1 spent on local agriculture creates $1.60 in economic impact for the local economy, which will support small businesses, local jobs, Wisconsin farmers, and Wisconsin families.

This bold action reflects a collaborative effort to foster health and economic security across our state. By investing in food insecurity solutions, we can create lasting change that will uplift families and support a healthier Wisconsin.

We hope this significant step will inspire further support and commitment from our legislators, as we continue to work together to ensure that everyone in our community has access to enough nutritious food to thrive.
