Milwaukee, Wisconsin- Today’s Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling confirmed what we already knew: abortion care is healthcare. Since the overturning of Roe v. Wade there have been serious concerns and confusion for Wisconsinites regarding the legality of abortion in our state. Josh Kaul v. Joel Urmaski sought to clarify if a zombie law from 1849 referred to consensual abortion care as feticide in the state of Wisconsin. Today the Wisconsin Supreme court has allowed for a level of protection, but this is not the end to our fight for reproductive justice.
As a grassroots organization, and a part of a collective effort for progressive policies, we will always advocate for access to safe and legal abortion access. We continue to demand not only the basic right to access an abortion, but equitable healthcare across the board.
Our attention must shift now to ensuring that the right to an abortion is protected in Wisconsin’s state constitution. Our fight to defend and protect abortion access is ongoing, and is informed by radical love, care, and trust. We must see through that the values shared by the majority of Wisconsinites are what shapes the integrity of our state. The people have stated on numerous occasions – abortion care is a basic human right.
RJAM is a grassroots organization in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. We are fighting for Reproductive Justice for all humans, and standing in opposition of the system(s) that deny human rights to any person. We are committed to insisting that Milwaukee County provides firm support to all those seeking equitable reproductive healthcare.
