MADISON – Today, the Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled to overturn the state’s 1849 abortion ban, paving the way toward establishing legal access to abortion. State Representative Joan Fitzgerald (D-Fort Atkinson) released the following statement:
“While today’s vote to overturn the ban was a remarkable win for people across the state, we have miles to go to protect the reproductive rights of millions of Wisconsinites. I am delighted to see we’ve taken a step in the right direction. But the people of Wisconsin deserve concrete protections and the codified right to bodily autonomy. The State Legislature must pass the Abortion Rights Restoration Act and repeal the precarious and medically unnecessary restrictions on safe abortion healthcare in Wisconsin.”
