EAU CLAIRE— Senator Jeff Smith (D-Brunswick) voted in favor of the budget compromise between legislative Democratic leadership and Governor Evers with Republicans, who up until last week failed to garner the necessary votes for passage.
“For over a year our region has been trying to pick up the pieces from the hospital closure crisis. Republicans failed to deliver on their promise for the $15 million. This budget finally offers the funding needed to shore up hospitals to prevent future closures.
“Without Democratic support, we would be left financially unsustainable. There is so much more to do, but stabilizing our health care industry has been too important to let this opportunity pass. This budget moves the needle in the right direction for the Chippewa Valley. I supported the final passage because it prioritizes much needed support for healthcare in our region.”
