MADISON, Wis. – Today, the Wisconsin Legislature voted to pass the Joint Finance Committee’s state budget.
Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:
“Governor Evers and our Joint Finance Committee Democrats fought hard to salvage critical programs within this budget. Despite our hard work, Legislative Republicans refused to meet Wisconsin’s needs.
“This budget does not properly fund childcare or our public school system. The special education reimbursement of 45% does not meet the 60% threshold requested by rural and urban schools alike. This budget contains no Knowles-Nelson Stewardship reauthorization despite significant bipartisan support. It removed $400 million in state grants for broadband expansion.
“Decades of underfunding by Republican legislatures have put us in this position. Once we turn this Assembly blue, I look forward to making the investments Wisconsinites dearly need.”
