MADISON, Wis. — In a ruling released this morning, the progressive majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court shut down yet another power grab from Wisconsin Republicans. The decision comes after GOP lawmakers overstepped and stopped a ban on harmful conversion therapy for Wisconsin kids and blocked updates to building and construction safety codes for years on end.

“Today’s ruling from the Wisconsin Supreme Court is a win for all Wisconsinites, as it will help protect Wisconsin kids from being subjected to the widely discredited, unpopular, and unethical practice of conversion therapy, and takes us another step further in ensuring a handful of far-right GOP lawmakers can’t hold our state government – and the support it provides to local families – hostage,”  said A Better Wisconsin Together Deputy Director Mike Browne.

Far-right MAGA justice Rebecca Bradley, who has a history of publishing vile anti-LGBTQ+ writings, dissented in this case along with fellow MAGA justice Annette Ziegler. Bradley and Ziegler also dissented from a recent state supreme court decision allowing Wisconsinites to make their own reproductive health care decisions.

According to Browne, Bradley’s latest dissent is disappointing but not surprising:

“By dissenting from the majority decision in this case, Rebecca Bradley is yet again defending and promoting right-wing extremism, putting her own personal partisan preferences above the law and above what’s best for Wisconsinites.

“That said, we applaud the progressive majority’s decision in this case and are grateful for their continued commitment to upholding the rights and freedoms of Wisconsinites,” Browne concluded.
