Madison, WI… Senator Tomczyk (R-Mosinee), member of the Joint Committee for Review of Administrative Rules (JCRAR), released the following statement on today’s Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling that strips the Legislature’s administrative rules oversight powers:
“The recent Wisconsin Supreme Court ruling stripping the Legislature’s ability to oversee administrative rules is a dangerous overreach that undermines the foundational checks and balances in our state government.
“For decades, the Legislature has reviewed and approved administrative rules to ensure unelected bureaucrats do not wield unchecked power. This process, carried out through JCRAR, has been a critical tool to hold executive agencies accountable and ensure laws are implemented as the Legislature intended, not the imagination of Governor Evers’ cronies.
“By stripping this oversight, the Court has effectively handed unilateral rulemaking authority to the executive branch, cutting the elected representatives of the people out of the process entirely.
“To quote Justice Rebecca Bradley, ‘Progressives like to protest against ‘kings’ —unless it is one of their own making.’
“This is not just a procedural change. It is a direct blow to representative government. It allows agencies to impose sweeping regulations without legislative approval, debate, or accountability.”
