MADISON, Wis. — WI-03 Congressman Derrick Van Orden has been falsely claiming he secured $1 billion for medicaid in Wisconsin, taking credit for Democratic Governor Tony Evers’ budget that actually secured the funding. This comes after he voted for the Big Ugly Bill that will cut roughly $1 trillion in federal Medicaid funding and cost tens of thousands of his constituents their health care. In response, Democratic Party of Wisconsin Chair Devin Remiker released the following statement

“Derrick Van Orden should stop lying and sober up to the reality that he voted for 30,000 Wisconsinites to lose their health care. Governor Evers acted quickly to contain the damage caused by power drunk Washington Republicans like Van Orden in their billionaire budget handout. Derrick knocked back his assignment from Trump to decimate the working class to enrich his corporate overlords and we will hold him accountable.”

Rep. Van Orden is up for reelection in 2026, in one of the most competitive seats in the country. Van Orden won his seat by less than 3 points in 2024, vastly underperforming the top of the ticket. Cook Political Report has called his seat a toss-up in 2026.
