MADISON, Wis. — Late last week, Bill Berrien doubled down on his support for the tariffs that have been raising everyday prices for Wisconsinites, as well as the Big Ugly Bill that could jeopardize health care for roughly 270,000 Wisconsinites. Berrien, ignoring the devastation ripping health care and food security would cause to children, veterans, and the elderly, claimed that he supports the Big Ugly Bill because of the economic impact.
What Berrien is ignoring with this two cent soundbite is that Wisconsin could lose:
“Just like Tim Michels and Eric Hovde, Bill Berrien is clear on the fact he will sell out Wisconsinites to win Trump’s endorsement,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesperson Philip Shulman. “Bill Berrien’s willingness to support increased prices on everyday goods, as well as having health care and food security ripped away from kids, veterans, and the elderly, proves that he is running for governor to serve himself and the silicon valley billionaires who are backing his candidacy — not working Wisconsinites.”
Before running for governor, Berrien had reservations about tariffs and explicitly noted the added cost it puts on consumers. Now, in the same breath as saying he needs Trump’s endorsement to win the primary, he’s whole heartedly embracing the tariffs that economists are showing are increasing prices on everyday goods for families.
Berrien has completely changed his tune, going so far as to say he wants to replicate Trump’s tariff policies “at the state level.”
“A Bill Berrien governorship would mean higher prices for Wisconsin families — something a millionaire like himself doesn’t care about but will devastate millions of families across the state,” Shulman concluded.
