MADISON, Wis – This week, over fifty Texas Democratic legislators exited their state to deny quorum and prevent Republicans from redrawing of Texas’ Congressional maps. In retaliation, Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) issued arrest warrants for those members. Rep. Randy Udell (D-47) showed his support for these legislators at a press conference in Boston during the National Conference of State Legislators.

Rep. Udell released the following statement:

“Texas Democrats are fighting to preserve American Democracy. Republicans want to redraw Texas maps to give themselves more seats in Congress without winning new voters. Once again, Republicans have attacked democratically-elected lawmakers with threats of arrest.

“I commend Texas Democrats for their bravery and their sacrifice. Denying quorum for months will separate them from families, homes, communities, and secondary employment. Republicans are terrified at the idea of fair midterms, and it is our duty to block their attempts to override voters’ power.

“In America, we live in a Democracy. Voters choose their legislators, not the other way around.”
