EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – Today, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Councils 7 and 82 endorsed Rebecca Cooke for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District. The local unions represent roughly 2,000 and 3,500 members respectively.
“As our campaign focuses on lowering costs and creating good-paying local jobs, I am so proud to earn the support of the hardworking men and women of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades,” Rebecca Cooke said. “They understand better than anyone what working families in our community are going through and the commonsense solutions we need in Congress—like protecting Social Security and Medicare to ensure everyone can retire with dignity and passing the PRO Act to give workers a real seat at the table. I look forward to partnering with them to make western Wisconsin more affordable for every hardworking family.”
“IUPAT District Council 7, representing over 2,000 tradespeople, are proud to endorse Rebecca Cooke for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District,” said Jeff Mehrhoff, Secretary-Treasurer/Business Manager of IUPAT District Council 7. “Rebecca has deep roots in western Wisconsin, she grew up on a family dairy farm and knows what it means to put in a hard day’s work. Rebecca’s also a small business owner and understands the challenges faced by entrepreneurs in today’s business climate. Rebecca will be a fighter for the values of western Wisconsin. Congressman Derrick Van Orden has demonstrated that his values are not aligned with western Wisconsin, where people care about their neighbors and their community and help each other.”
“IUPAT District Council 82 is proud to endorse Rebecca Cooke for Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District,” said Jeff Stark, Secretary-Treasurer/Business Manager of IUPAT District Council 82. “From our first meeting, Rebecca committed to being a steadfast ally of the IUPAT and all working people – Rebecca will fight to uphold fair labor standards, worker protections, and policies that support apprenticeships and workforce development. Her commitment to strengthening the middle class, standing up for workers and their families, and her willingness to listen is exactly the leadership Wisconsin needs in the U.S. House.”
Today’s endorsement builds on Rebecca’s support from organized labor, including previous endorsements from the Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation (SMART) Unions and UFCW Local 1437.
In addition, Rebecca is endorsed by U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, the Blue Dog Coalition, the New Dem Action Fund, Elect Democratic Women, and EMILY’s List. She’s also garnered the support of State Senator Brad Pfaff, 15 Members of Congress and a broad coalition of farmers, small business owners, educators and healthcare workers across western Wisconsin.
