MADISON, WI
 – Under President Trump’s urging, Texas Republicans are trying to further gerrymander and lock down Congress before 2026. It’s the latest in a broader scheme to erode our democracy and consolidate power. Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition Organizing Director, iuscely Flores, released the following statement:

“The Wisconsin Fair Maps Coalition stands in solidarity with voters and advocates in Texas who are facing yet another wave of extreme, partisan gerrymandering designed to entrench power and deny communities fair representation. Let me make this clear, as a native Spanish speaker, gerrymandering translates to three words: manipulating election results. We will not allow voters to be undermined.

“What’s happening in Texas is not an isolated issue. It is part of a broader national strategy to consolidate control by undermining the will of the people. As we’ve seen firsthand here in Wisconsin, gerrymandering erodes trust in government, silences communities, and distorts policy outcomes for decades.

“Gerrymandering is wrong no matter which party does it. We urge all Americans to recognize gerrymandering for what it is: a form of voter suppression, and we call on leaders across the country and the political spectrum to reject gerrymandering in all forms.

“As a nonpartisan coalition, we remain committed to our goal of establishing a fair, independent redistricting process that protects voting rights, fosters accountability, and empowers people to shape the decisions that impact their lives and families. The situation in Texas serves as a stark reminder that, without independent redistricting, no state is immune from abuse.

“We will keep fighting for legislative and constitutional solutions that ensure fair redistricting here in Wisconsin and throughout the nation. That means maps drawn transparently, by an independent nonpartisan process, and with the voices of Wisconsinites at the center. Regardless of race, class, or who we worship and love, we deserve a Wisconsin that values everyone.”
