Madison, WI – Representative Dan Knodl (R-Germantown), along with a bipartisan coalition of Wisconsin state legislators, has sent a formal letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) urging swift federal action to assist communities across the state devastated by record rainfall and flooding on August 10, 2025.
The letter, addressed to David Richardson, Senior Official Performing the Duties of Administrator at FEMA, requests that the agency recommend a federal state of emergency declaration to the President. The request follows severe storms that dropped between five and twelve inches of rain in just a few hours, causing flash flooding, river overflows, washed-out roads and bridges, damage to homes, and widespread utility disruptions.
“Local responders are working tirelessly, but the scale of this disaster is stretching resources to the breaking point,” said Rep. Knodl. “Federal assistance is critical to helping our communities recover as quickly as possible.”
The letter emphasizes the urgent need for federal resources to support emergency response efforts, repair infrastructure, and aid long-term recovery. Lawmakers from across the political spectrum signed the request, underscoring the bipartisan commitment to securing relief for affected Wisconsin communities.
FEMA’s expedited review and the President’s approval of the request would unlock additional funding, logistical support, and recovery coordination to help Wisconsin residents rebuild.
