A lawsuit filed in the Western District of Wisconsin federal court alleges that a former women’s basketball head coach penalized neurodivergent student athletes and violated privacy rights.
SUN PRAIRIE, WISC. – Five former members of the Wisconsin Badgers women’s basketball team filed a lawsuit in federal court in Madison, Wisconsin on August 15, 2025. The lawsuit named former head women’s basketball coach Marisa Moseley, retired associate athletic director Justin Doherty, along with the full board of regents of the University of Wisconsin System. Americans for Autism Advocacy (AFAA) issues the following statement:
“Although the complaint filed in federal court consists of allegations, the details outlined raise serious concerns about the University of Wisconsin’s intercollegiate athletics program. Neurodivergent student athletes at Wisconsin and other NCAA member schools deserve equal treatment in terms of support services and accommodations that are federally mandated. University of Wisconsin Chancellor Jennifer Mnookin is responsible for ensuring that the university complies with NCAA regulations, as well as applicable federal and state laws related to the conduct alleged in the complaint. AFAA calls on both Chancellor Mnookin and Wisconsin Athletic Board Chairman Doug McLeod to conduct an immediate top to bottom review of all procedures, programs, and policies relating to neurodivergent student athletes. Both Chancellor Mnookin and Chairman McLeod have an immediate responsibility to mitigate any further damage to a top brand in collegiate athletics while the case is pending.”
