MADISON, WI – Representative Alex Dallman (R-Markesan) released the following statement regarding introduction of Assembly Bill 308 (AB 308).
“I introduced AB 308 which will prohibit state and local taxpayer dollars from subsidizing health care for illegal immigrants. This bill will ensure hard-earned taxpayer money goes to Wisconsin citizens and not used to fund people here illegally,” said Representative Dallman.
On January 1, 2025, MinnesotaCare expanded eligibility for health care services to include undocumented individuals. This expansion was estimated to cost Minnesota an additional $200M over the next four years. Minnesota has since removed this provision. In February 2025, an Illinois audit found their healthcare program spent over $900 million for health care on undocumented immigrants.
AB 308 ensures these policies are not enacted in Wisconsin by prohibiting state, local, and federal funds flowing through the state treasury from being used to provide health care services for individuals not lawfully present in the United States.
“Taxpayer funds should not be going to fund welfare for undocumented illegal immigrants. I look forward to moving this bill through the legislative process and ensuring taxpayer dollars are spent on hardworking Wisconsinites.”
