Madison, WI – Today, Senator Brad Pfaff (D – Onalaska) and Representative Jill Billings (D – La Crosse) introduced legislation inspired by the personal story, loss, and ongoing efforts of a local La Crosse family (Bubba’s Fund). The legislation aims to save lives by improving the accessibility and availability of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs). Specifically, the legislation creates an AED grant program for licensed child care centers funded at $1,000,000 per year.

Senator Pfaff released the following statement:

“I’ve had the honor to get to know Coach Mo and her family over the past year. The work they’ve done in the community, turning their own heartbreak into hope and bringing friends and neighbors together for this cause, is nothing short of incredible.

“Building on their grassroots initiative, I’m proud to introduce Bubba’s Law to increase access to life-saving AEDs and improve the safety of our communities, not just for children but for all who may experience a cardiac emergency.

“Child care providers are already trained in AED use, but without access to the device itself, that training can’t save lives. The legislation would simply better equip our community with the tools needed to save lives at a time when every minute counts.”

Copies of the proposed legislation and co-sponsorship memo are included in the original email. Additionally, Senator Pfaff’s video announcing the legislation, which was shared at Bubba’s Fund 1st Annual Benefit yesterday evening, is available here.
