[Madison, WI] – The 1848 Project, Wisconsin’s conservative government leadership pipeline, is proud to announce the appointment of Benjamin Garbedian as its new Executive Director. Garbedian replaces original Executive Director Bonnie Lee, who is retiring from the organization in the role she originated.

Founded by former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, the 1848 Project exists to identify, recruit, and equip candidates to run for local political office in Wisconsin. Since its launch in 2020, the organization has engaged communities across the state, developed the Forward Agenda policy roadmap, and built a robust training program to prepare Wisconsin’s conservative leaders to govern with principle and clarity.

“I am grateful to Bonnie for her years of insightful and dedicated service to this organization, and excited for the energy and commitment to advancing conservative leadership in Wisconsin that I know Benjamin will bring,” said Rebecca Kleefisch, founder of the 1848 Project. “Benjamin’s experience and passion for equipping the next leaders will build upon Bonnie’s work to ensure that our organization continues to grow and thrive.”

“I am honored to serve as Executive Director of the 1848 Project,” said Garbedian. “Now more than ever, Wisconsin needs strong local leaders who serve their communities with integrity at every level of government. I’m excited to continue the work that Rebecca and Bonnie have begun to support candidates and elected officials who will keep our state moving forward.”

The 1848 Project continues to provide candidates and local elected officials with the tools they need to lead with excellence—through in-person training sessions, in-depth policy briefings, educational resources, and mentorship opportunities. Inspired by Wisconsin’s state motto—Forward—the 1848 Project remains committed to raising up the next generation of conservative leaders to build a stronger, freer, and more prosperous Wisconsin.
