MADISON – Rep. Amanda Nedweski (R–Pleasant Prairie) issued the following response to the Evers-Rodriguez administration’s Clearinghouse Rule 25-004 that redefines “pregnant women” as “pregnant persons” in administrative rule:

“Fresh off of the State Supreme Court’s ruling that strips state lawmakers of their oversight ability of administrative rules, the Evers-Rodriguez administration is using their newfound power to enact their radical gender agenda through the rulemaking process without legislative approval,” Nedweski said. “After becoming a national laughingstock for proposing a state budget which referred to mothers as ‘inseminated persons,’ the Evers-Rodriguez administration is doubling down on erasing mothers while using administrative rule to advance their unpopular political ideology.”

On multiple occasions, the DHS Clearinghouse Rule replaces phrases like “pregnant woman” with “pregnant member(s),” “pregnant MA member,” or “pregnant persons.” It also replaces the word “father” with “other parent.” Rep. Clint Moses (R-Menomonie) — who chairs the Assembly Committee on Health, Aging, and Long-Term Care–held a hearing on the proposed rule change where it was met with  opposition. The Department of Health Services was invited to explain the changes, but declined to attend the hearing.

“This rule makes it crystal clear: in the Evers-Rodriguez administration, motherhood isn’t respected—it’s mocked,” Nedweski added. “Once again, Wisconsin moms are being pushed to the side, all to advance a fringe political platform. The fact that our state’s so-called ‘public health experts’ continue to push the unscientific fantasy that men can become pregnant is nothing short of embarrassing. It’s an insult to women everywhere and a blatant rejection of basic biology.”
