[Milwaukee, WI] – On Saturday, September 13th at 11:00AM CT, the Milwaukee Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression will be having a march and rally to honor Mexican Independence Day. We will begin the rally at the Mitchell Park Domes with speeches from our organization plus Comite Sin Fronteras, the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, and the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement. We are having this rally to show that the Milwaukee Alliance stands with our immigrant community and will not back down even when times are tough.
For years, Trump has been threatening mass deportations, focusing these attacks primarily on Mexican and other Latin American immigrants. It is no coincidence that this administration has decided to ramp up these unjust deportations during this month: a month during which millions of Latine people are celebrating their independence.
The purpose of this tactic is clear: to silence immigrant communities and make sure they are not seen. A silent community makes their job easy. Now more than ever, we have to be loud and proud about our culture. Their fear tactics will not work. We will be making noise in the streets with those who can to defend those who cannot.
Together, we will show that our communities are not afraid and will continue to be seen and heard.
