Today, Assembly and Senate Democrats introduced a package of bills to bolster Wisconsin’s university and technical college systems. The legislation was introduced at a joint press conference held at the State Capitol, attended by members of the Assembly and Senate along with advocates.

Representative Ben DeSmidt (D—Kenosha) had the following statement:

“Wisconsin ranks 44th out of 50 nationally for public funding of its four-year university system. Common sense tells us investing in our students, faculty, and institutions is the surest way to boost student success, elevate our national standing, and build a stronger workforce for Wisconsin.

“I’m proud to lead the effort in the Assembly to restore faculty tenure, which is critical to fostering an environment where students can learn from the best educators. Stable, dedicated faculty are the heart of student success. By prioritizing affordability, support programs, and a stable academic workforce, we can ensure our universities and technical colleges become engines of opportunity, empowering the next generation to thrive and lead.

“We can no longer settle for mediocrity. It’s time to ignite a new era for higher education in Wisconsin.”
