State Representative Sylvia Ortiz‑Velez is excited to announce that a Bi-Partisan group of Representatives and Senators, including Rep. Ortiz-Velez, have introduced an Assembly Joint Resolution Honoring Latino Veterans in Wisconsin. Rep. Ortiz-Velez wants to give a special recognition to Representatives Kurtz, Rodriguez, Rivera Wagner, and Senators Cabral-Guevara and James.
This observance acknowledges and remembers the sacrifices of our Wisconsin Hispanic and Latino Veterans. We honor their dedication and service to the state of Wisconsin and the United States. In Wisconsin, Hispanic and Latino Veterans demonstrate a strong tradition of service and sacrifice.
Hispanic and Latino Americans have served in U.S. military conflicts since at least the Civil War, and continue to do so with honor and distinction. Nationally active-duty military in recent reports include approximately 19.5 percent of members identifying as Hispanic or Latino.(in 2023 reportdownload.militaryonesource.mil).
Hispanic Veterans appear in the oral history collection of the Wisconsin Veterans Museum, preserving their service narratives for posterity and that highlight the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Wisconsinites in U.S. military service.
We hope the Assembly will therefore extend their deep recognition, respect, and gratitude to the Hispanic and Latino Veterans of Wisconsin, and formally honor their service and sacrifices in defense of our nation.
State Representative Sylvia Ortiz‑Velez, issues a heartfelt thank you to all the Bi-Partisan Co-Sponsors.
