MADISON — Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison) has named Division Chief Dan Williams of the City of Madison Fire Department (MFD) as the First Responder of the Year for the 79th Assembly District.

“It is an honor to recognize Chief Williams as the First Responder of the Year for the 79th Assembly District,” said Rep. Subeck. “His distinguished three-decade career with the Madison Fire Department and lifelong dedication to the community where he was born represents the very best of public service.”

In the 30 years Chief Williams has worked with Madison Fire Department, he has served as firefighter, paramedic, lieutenant, training captain, Camp Randall Stadium communicator, tactical EMS team lead medic, heavy urban rescue team member, lake rescue team member, and hazardous incident team member. As Division Chief of EMS Training and Logistics, he oversees the initial and ongoing medical training of all department personnel—both basic and advanced life support—and manages the procurement and maintenance of critical EMS supplies and equipment.

“Chief Williams’s leadership and calm under pressure were instrumental in the emergency response to the Abundant Life Christian School shooting last December,” said Rep. Subeck. “His experience and coordination helped ensure victims received immediate, expert care. Chief Williams’s steady leadership has strengthened our community in its most difficult moments, and I am deeply grateful for his continued commitment to keeping Madison safe.”

In recognition of October as First Responder Appreciation Month, the Wisconsin State Assembly honors first responders from each Assembly district during a Hometown Heroes award ceremony held in conjunction with today’s floor session.

Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
