MADISON – Today, First Responders from across Wisconsin gathered together in the Wisconsin State Assembly to receive the honor of First Responder of the Year Awards presented by each Wisconsin State Representative. Representative Alex Joers presented the 81st Assembly District Award to Middleton Fire Department Assistant Chief Gary Gillitzer.
Due to his outstanding work ethic and positive attitude towards both his fellow firefighters and the over 35,000 residents of the Middleton Fire District, Assistant Chief Gillitzer was awarded this distinction. Throughout his years of leadership, Assistant Chief Gillitzer has built a legacy of service, mentorship, and excellence.

Joers. “It takes incredible commitment to serve our neighbors as a first responder for so many years, and Assistant Chief Gillitzer exemplifies the meaning of this award.”
Assistant Chief Gillitzer has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to his community through his work as a state emergency services fire instructor, emergency vehicle master mechanic, and full-time assistant chief. Assistant Chief Gillitzer has shaped the skills and safety of countless first responders with his commitment to sharing his extensive knowledge with firefighters across the state of Wisconsin.
