Madison, WI – Representative Chanz Green (R-Grand View) released the following statement after the Assembly passed his bill, Assembly Bill 239, which prohibits harassing, threatening, or physically harming search and rescue K9s:
“Search and Rescue K9s are highly trained working animals who deserve legal protection from harm, intimidation, and abuse. These dogs are often deployed in dangerous and high-stress situations, from natural disasters to wilderness searches. Extending existing protections to include search and rescue dogs acknowledges their vital role in public safety. It ensures that anyone who intentionally injures or threatens them is held accountable.”
AB 239 now heads to the Senate for consideration.
Rep. Green also voted in favor of measures that will benefit EMS providers in rural communities.
- Senate Bill 183 increases Medicaid reimbursement for “Treatment in Place” calls, requires an annual report on EMS training hour changes for greater transparency, and removes a disincentive under the Expenditure Restraint Program for communities with joint Fire/EMS districts.
- Senate Bill 182 creates tuition reimbursement and grant programs to support EMS training through the Wisconsin Technical College System and establishes a Live 911 Pilot Program to enhance emergency response through real-time video communication between dispatchers and callers.
