Rep. Rodriguez Awards Milwaukee Police Officer Ryan Sharp
MADISON – State Representative Jessie Rodriguez (R-Oak Creek) honored Milwaukee Police Officer Ryan Sharp of Milwaukee as the 21st Assembly District’s First Responder of the Year and released a statement following the award ceremony on the Assembly Floor.
“I received numerous nominations for the 2025 First Responder of the Year. Officer Ryan Sharp was nominated by his fellow officers of the Milwaukee Police Department for this distinction, and I could not be prouder to present him with this award,” said Rep. Rodriguez.
Each Legislative Session, all 99 State Representatives seek nominations for the distinction of First Responder of the Year for their respective Assembly Districts. Earlier this year, four Milwaukee Police officers were involved in the same incident resulting in an arrest. They were nominated for First Responder of the Year for their decisive life-saving actions that day.
On February 12th, 2025, multiple officers arrived at the scene to apprehend a suspect shooting his gun off walking down the road in Milwaukee’s 3rd police district. During the encounter, Officer Daniel Gonzales was shot twice and in need of emergency medical attention. While an Officer apprehended the suspect, Officer Sharp worked quickly to provide in-the-field medical care, ultimately helping to save a fellow officer’s life.
“Providing in-the-field first aid was essential during this altercation. Through Officer Sharp’s swift actions, he helped to slow the bleeding of one of the two gunshot wounds. These quick actions were essential for Officer Gonzales to have his best chance to make it to the hospital. If not for the actions of these officers, Officer Gonzales may not have made it,” explained Rodriguez.
“It is for this reason that I chose Officer Ryan Sharp of Milwaukee to receive the 21st Assembly District’s 2025 First Responder of the Year Award. It’s actions such as this that exemplify an officer’s commitment to protecting and serving our community. It is an honor to award this to a hero of the 21st District,” claimed Rep. Rodriguez.
