Watertown, WI – State Representative William Penterman (R–Hustisford) presented School Resource Officer Christopher Karnatz with a legislative citation recognizing him as the 38th Assembly District’s 2025 First Responder of the Year at the Watertown Police Department on Friday.

“Officer Karnatz has served the Watertown community with integrity, compassion, and professionalism for more than 25 years,” said Representative Penterman. “His leadership as a School Resource Officer, his mentorship of young officers, and his commitment to public safety are truly commendable. Our community is safer and stronger thanks to his service.”

Officer Karnatz has served the Watertown Police Department for 26 years, where he has held numerous roles, including Field Training Officer, Technical Crash Investigator, and Emergency Vehicle Operation and Control Instructor. In his current role as a School Resource Officer, he has built lasting relationships with community members and developed programs to introduce middle school students to public safety.
