Event connects global biodiversity loss to human health and Wisconsin-based solutions
Madison, WI — December 4, 2025. The UW Madison Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies and Physicians for Social Responsibility Wisconsin (PSR WI) will co-host Remembrance of Lost Species, a unique public event exploring the interconnections between biodiversity, human health, and the urgent need for environmental action.
The program will feature seven multidisciplinary UW Madison professors and local physicians who will discuss the causes and consequences of global species loss, the health impacts of biodiversity decline, and innovative research and community efforts emerging from Wisconsin and beyond.
This Madison-based gathering is part of an international observance held annually around November 30, Remembrance Day for Lost Species, when communities worldwide reflect on the animals and plants we have lost and recommit to protecting the life that remains.
“Biodiversity loss is not just an environmental issue; it’s a public health issue,” said Marta Karlov, Executive Director of PSR Wisconsin. “This event brings science, medicine, and community together to imagine a healthier and more sustainable future.”
The event will take place on Wednesday, December 4, 2025, at UW Science Hall, 550 N Park Street.
Media outlets are invited to cover the program or interview event speakers about its relevance to Wisconsin audiences.
