MADISON – The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation, Wisconsin Cattlemen’s Association, Wisconsin Pork Association, Dairy Business Association, Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association and Wisconsin Veterinary Medical Association released the following joint statement regarding agency and legislative proposals to reduce or eliminate the fee increases initially included in ATCP 10 and 12:
“Thank you to the hundreds of farmers, ranchers and stakeholders who engaged with the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection and their state legislators throughout this process regarding proposed fee increases in the recent administrative rule proposal. Your thoughtful comments, testimony and outreach played a crucial role in shaping the conversation and driving meaningful change for rural Wisconsin and its livestock industry.
We also extend our appreciation to the Department of Agriculture and the legislators for listening to the concerns raised by our members and proposing solutions that address the impact these fee increases could have on farmers, sales barns, truckers and, ultimately, consumers. The introduction of two proposed bills and today’s proposed modification of the DATCP rule indicates that the concerns our members expressed were heard and taken seriously.
As this process continues, it is essential that any fee structure reflects the financial realities of farmers and ranchers, while ensuring that critical health and food safety programs remain effective. Exploring alternative funding sources, outside of fee increases, will be key to sustaining these vital programs without placing undue strain on the agricultural community.
We remain committed to working collaboratively with DATCP and the legislature to develop a fair, balanced and sustainable approach that protects both animal and human health while supporting the continued success and vitality of Wisconsin agriculture.”
