Ongoing Federal Government Shutdown is Delaying Wisconsinites’ FoodShare Benefits

Sheboygan, Wis. — Today, Rep. Sheehan, in partnership with the Sheboygan County Food Bank, hosted an emergency food drive in response to the announcement that the federal government shutdown will delay Wisconsin families’ November FoodShare assistance. Nearly 700,000 people in the state rely on FoodShare assistance, including more than 260,000 individuals under 18, to put food on the table. The food drive gathered a total of 1,010 pounds of food.

Rep. Sheehan released the following statement after the emergency food drive:

“Hundreds of thousands of Wisconsinites rely on FoodShare, but the government shutdown threatens families’ November benefits.

“As people across our state look to other sources for assistance, my Democratic colleagues across the state are organizing to provide assistance to our local foodbanks and help community members make ends meet.

“I’m thankful for the great turnout of selfless Sheboyganites who came out with over 1,000 lbs of shelf-stable items to donate to the Sheboygan County Food Bank. I am incredibly proud to be a Sheboyganite and represent this beautiful community that helps those in need. When our community sees something that is wrong, we band together to help fix it.”
