Eau Claire, WI — City Council President and Congressional candidate Emily Berge released the following statement regarding a deal to fund the federal government while failing to lower health care costs.
“Any deal that fails to make health care more affordable fails to hear and address the needs of the people across Wisconsin and the nation.
Rising costs in health care, neighbors losing coverage, longer waits at the Emergency Room – these are all policy choices made by Trump and cheered on by Van Orden.
Nearly 80% of Americans, across party identity, support extending health care tax credits. Without these credits, more than 275,000 Wisconsinites will see their health care costs spike. President Trump and Derrick Van Orden are happy to give billionaires and corporations tax breaks all while watching working class folks see their rates jump by as much as $30,000 more each year.
Senate Democrats must continue fighting to keep health care costs from spiking. The people of Wisconsin, and the nation, deserve elected officials who will fight for them, listen to them, and offer real solutions to make their lives more affordable.”
Recent polling done by KFF shows that 92% of Democrats, 82% of Independents, and 59% of Republicans believe that Congress should extend the enhanced ACA tax credits.
