One City Schools has once again earned high marks as the state of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) released its annual school performance report cards today. One City’s elementary and middle schools are being recognized for “exceeding expectations,” a designation for Wisconsin schools that are performing above their peers in the areas of academic growth and closing achievement gaps.
“This data from the state affirms that One City Schools is excelling at readying our next generation,” One City Founder and CEO Kaleem Caire said. “We are breaking barriers to learning with a model that works and showing what’s possible for even the young people who have struggled to find their footing in school,” Caire added.
Among some of the state’s education achievement findings:
One City Scholars in grades 6 through 8 scored at or above 98.7% of their peers across the state, showing year-to-year growth in academic achievement on statewide tests. This metric indicates that One City Scholars are advancing faster than their counterparts across Wisconsin. One City enrolls the highest percentage of Black students among all public schools in Dane County, as well as a high percentage of children living in poverty and children with special education needs. One City outperformed every middle school in Madison in academic growth for all students.
One City Scholars in grades 4K through 5th scored at or above 75.8% of their peers statewide in year-over-year growth. This metric indicates that One City Scholars in this age group are progressing academically more quickly than their peers. Similar to its middle school, One City outperformed most elementary schools in academic growth for all students.
“We are proud of One City’s leadership in helping our Scholars pave their roads to success,” said James Howard, Chair of One City’s Board of Directors. “We are doing something special and unique at One City and would encourage anyone of any background to come take a tour and see for themselves the One City difference.”
One City Schools demonstrates what’s possible in public education, providing an opportunity for young people to grow and thrive through innovative learning that creates paths to lifelong leadership and excellence. Located on two campuses: Madison’s South Side and Monona, One City Schools offers pre-school through 8th-grade learning.
