EAU CLAIRE, Wisc. – Today, Rebecca Cooke, candidate for Congress in Wisconsin’s Third Congressional District, issued the following statement on the U.S. House of Representatives passing a bill to end the government shutdown without addressing the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits:

“Last night, the House passed a budget that will cause health insurance to skyrocket for people in West Central Wisconsin and across the country. Last night was an example of how politicians in Washington have failed us—the livelihoods of the American people should never be used as a bargaining chip. Derrick Van Orden caused pain to our communities by shutting down the government for over 40 days, all so he could vote to increase the cost of health insurance. This is a blow to the thousands of us who rely on the marketplace for our insurance—small business owners, farmers, young adults and more. It is going to make the health care crisis our community faces even worse. When you struggle next year to pay your health care bills, Derrick Van Orden is to blame.
