Yesterday, Republican gubernatorial candidate in Wisconsin, Tom Tiffany, suggested that young Wisconsinites get “barebones” health insurance.

Tiffany’s comments come on the heels of his vote for a government funding bill that does not extend critical ACA health care credits that over 270,000 Wisconsinites rely on. Thanks to Donald Trump and his Republican allies on Capitol Hill, families’ health insurance premiums are set to double or even triple next year.

Tiffany also voted for Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, which kicks 110,000 Wisconsin families off their health insurance entirely and puts three rural hospitals at risk of closure.

In response, DNC Deputy Communications Director Abhi Rahman released the following statement:

“Donald Trump has created a health care crisis in Wisconsin, and Tom Tiffany has rubberstamped Trump’s actions every step of the way. Tom Tiffany couldn’t care less if Wisconsin families can afford their health insurance — or if they have insurance at all. Tell a kid with cancer that they deserve ‘barebones’ insurance. Tiffany’s comments are indefensible. While Republicans continue to make health insurance more expensive and unattainable, Democrats are fighting to lower costs for Wisconsin families and save their health care.”
