Madison, WI — Americans for Prosperity–Wisconsin (AFP-WI) commends Senator Chris Kapenga and Senate Republicans for their leadership in passing Senate Bill 389, which repeals Governor Tony Evers’ extraordinary veto that would have locked Wisconsin families and businesses into higher property taxes for centuries.

Governor Evers used his veto authority to extend a $325-per-pupil spending increase until the year 2425—a move that exemplifies executive overreach and places an unimaginable burden on hardworking taxpayers for generations to come.

AFP-WI Legislative Director Jerry Ponio issued the following statement:

“We applaud Senate Republicans for standing up for prosperity and fiscal responsibility, while Senate Democrats chose to defend a lame-duck governor instead of defending the pocketbooks of their constituents. Governor Evers’ veto was an abuse of power that put politics ahead of people. Wisconsinites deserve leaders who protect their financial future — not saddle them with 400 years of tax hikes.”
