Madison, WI – Today, the State Assembly passed several bills introduced by Representative Cindi Duchow (R-Delafield).

Assembly Bill 225 relates to determining a proper venue in a civil lawsuit. Too often, a venue is chosen based on a third party, including an insurer, even when the venue doesn’t make sense. Examples include a car accident and both vehicle owners being from the same county and the lawsuit taking place in a different county – only because the insurance company does “substantial business” there. This reform aims to keep trials fair and insurance costs affordable for all Wisconsinites. AB 225 and its Senate Companion, SB 226, await consideration by the Senate.

Assembly Bill 646 requires a comprehensive top-down study of all 421 school districts in Wisconsin. This study will provide valuable, unbiased data about the current state and future projections of Wisconsin schools. With almost every district facing declining enrollment, this data will be a powerful tool for school boards to use when discussing the future of their district.

Assembly Bill 649 provides funding for other consolidation bills passed by the Assembly. This funding is necessary to provide a financial incentive to school districts considering consolidation. The goal is to save the state and taxpayers money over the long term.

AB 646 and 649 await consideration in the Senate.
